The full process

Four stages - from field grain to drill-ready seed.

Stage 1: Pre-cleaning (aspiration)

Grain enters the machine via an auger. It is fed into our pre-cleaner and effectively removes light particles from the grain. Thanks to a high-performance aspiration system, it provides intensive dust removal from grain, removing dust, chaff and light straw.

Preparation matters: Seed must be dry under 15% moisture for wheat. Wet grain does not clean well and risks blocking screens also seed treatments need grain dry for the treatment to adhere to the grain. Call us if unsure.

Stage 2: Screen grading

A rotary screen removes straw, chaff, large clods and stones, protecting downstream equipment and ensuring a consistent feed. Removed material stays on your farm. The first screens remove the small and broken grains, while the following ones filter out the good grain. The largest waste is discharged at the end of the screen.

Why uniformity matters: Graded seed drills more accurately. Consistent seed size means your drill performs to spec, reducing skips and doubles, improving establishment and yield potential.

Stage 3: Density selector

Screens grade by size. Density selection sort by specific weight. The grain to be separated is delivered to the reciprocating deck via a flow regulator. The grain flows over specific sized screens for the crop type, where adjustable air flow allows the heavier boldest grain to fall through to the second deck, light impurities float over the top of the deck and goes to screenings, while stones and clods are moved to the highest point of the deck and discharge to screening.

Stage 4: Precision seed dressing

Cleaned and graded seed moves to our batch treater. Treatment is applied at ±2% of target rate. Our operators are fully certified for all approved seed treatment products.→ Fungicide dressings - bunt, smut, fusarium, septoria seedling blight → Insecticide dressings - wireworm→ Combined fungicide/insecticide products → Trace element applications - manganese, zinc → Biological seed treatments on request.

Your choice: You specify the product, we apply it at the correct, calibrated rate. We can source treatments or apply products you supply.

Bagging, weighing & documentation

Treated seed is discharged into 500 kg or 1000kg multi trip bulk bags. Every bag is labelled. Our operator completes a full job record on site: treatment product and batch number, variety, lot traceability and operator certification details. Farm-saved seed royalties BSPB can be collected.

The farm-saved seed saving

Certified Wheat seed in the UK currently ranges from approximately £400 to £700 per ton, depending on variety, quality, and vendor. Farm-saved seed processed by us — processing, treatment and royalties included — typically comes in at 40–75% of that figure. On a 300-tonne seed requirement, the saving routinely exceeds £20,000 in a single season.

→ Certified seed: £400–£700/t depending on variety
→ Seed on farm when you need it - no supply chain risk

Plant Variety Rights: You must pay royalties on protected varieties. We collect and submit these on your behalf. Some varieties cannot legally be farm-saved. Our team will advise on variety status before processing.
